When my ranger got close to Legendary survivor title, I decided to secure it. I used xp scrolls and the allies from the Welcome To Cantha quest and just farmed Jade Brotherhood and Am Fah groups until I got the title. Since I was so far into the title track, I never let my health go down below 50%. If it did, I close the GW window. I don't use any henchies. Instead I left the Welcome to Cantha quest unfinished so I get enough allies to use as henchies. That way I get all the xp. Along with xp scrolls, which I was able to keep on buying with the drops I got, it didn't take that long.

Look for a sure way to get the title and you'll be fine. You'll even get some gold and other good drops now and then.

I disagree heavily with this statement. I have achieved the Legendary Survivor title on my assassin, and this was achieved after I entirely beat factions. It seems to me that if you do your job effectively, you generally will not accumulate deaths. As an assassin, I realized being attacked was not my strong point. After all, what do we take warriors for? I would wait for the aggro to catch on the warrior, then I would go in and kill backline enemies (generally things that stand alone) with relative ease and take no damage in doing so. The entire time I took to achieve the title, the lowest health I got down to after level 20 was 200 health. It wasn't because I was being overly careful, it was because I was doing my job effectively. Of course my group did not always succeed, but if we were about to fail I would just leave the mission area in order to keep my title going. Obviously, the title is easier for some classes than others, but if you are doing your job the way it is meant to be done then you will be fine.

BTW it is not hard for assassins to find groups, that is a bunch of bullshit. I was able to find people for every mission of factions with relative ease. It is amazing what the survivor title can do for an assassin. The amount of damage they put out on a single target even in PvE is amazing, and it is way more effective than recruiting another tank.

It sounds like bad players going for survivor give the good players who are going for it a bad name. As I was going for survivor on my mesmer, I can't recall ragequiting a PUG to stay alive. But I can recall a bunch of times where I was the last player alive. The PUGs that I played with showed an astonishing inability, or refusal to kite, and generally acted like they were trying to die. I either was able to get everyone up with res-chant, or I just suggested we /resign (because I couldn't res anyone safely, and at that point it dosn't matter if the player is a survivor).

As Russell.Crowe mentions, if you're good at the class you play, you shouldn't have problems. If you need to take up half of your bar with defensive skills on anything but a monk, rit, or para (who could have those on their bar anway, but not just for personal use!), just to stay alive, I think you're doing something very wrong. If anything, the experence made me a better player.

If you're paranoid that PUGs will spontaniously explode (they typicly don't explode fast enough to kill you), and kill your survivor, I strongly suggest playing with henchies, heros, and friends. Assuming of course that you and your friends are better than the average PUG. I don't suggest this because henchie's don't rage as much when you alt-f4, but because they're more dependable, and less likely to put you in deadly situations than the average PUG.

PvE is easy. Good, cautious players should not have problems staying alive. Survivor just takes a little persistance, and the common sense to avoid certain ele bosses. That being said, if you don't know the area well, playing it for the first time with a survivor is a good way to get killed.

That really sucks I havent had this happen myself, I've only tried at the survivor title once though, and I died right after reaching level 20 and i got the title - so i didnt go any further with it, and I find it very very hard to work on, I know if i were to do that, something bad would happen like that.

Actually, had the same sort of thing happen to me recently. Started a warrior about a week ago with intent of getting Survivor 3 if I could. Since Elona and Tyria's xp rate is significantly slower than Cantha's, I decided I'd work on that after Ascending in Tyria.

So few days later, I had ascended, without dying, and went to work on Cantha. Cleared most of the city in a few hours, only coming near death once (200hp) and I just closed the game. Coming back after that, I made sure to check /deaths (returned 0) and continued on.

Got to Arborstone and near the end Danika managed to get herself killed by running around the group of Oni and into the statues at the end of the mission.. Now, deaths due to things like that aren't susposed to count (I was at full health at the time, so I know for sure I didn't die from an attack), but when I checked anyway, my /deaths returned 1.

Odd thing was, I was at 325kxp and the xp counter had apparently stopped back at 295k, which is where ascending had put me. I hadn't gone afk for more than a few seconds in an area with any hostiles (a few times longer in outposts, yes) and I had never noticed any DP coming back to the screen, nor was I ever started a res shrine I hadn't been at before. The death was just given to me, and I have no idea how, why or exactly where it would've been.

Kind of sucks, but it was more of a 'see if I could do it' thing than 'must have survivor 3'. Disappointed it was gone, but not enough so to remake a character I put that much time into. Be nice if they fixed that bug (or whatever is causing that) though, as I have heard of it happening to others in my guild.

The current survivor implementation makes it difficult to obtain the title, at least legitimately -- it actually encourages dropping out of missions to protect yourself, and restarting your character from scratch whether you really got killed or the game decided to "kill you" (grind anyone?).
Everything you have said thus far applies to everyone. Ones that are going for the survivor title and ones that are not going for the title. Lag, bug, moonwalk, false death etc. are fair game. For those of you that complain people "farm" for this title... well... have you ever soloed farmed for EXP before? Do you actually realize the above-mentioned problems also apply when you perform these farming actions? The risks are equal in my opinion and it depends on luck as much as skills and capital if you prefer to have someone else do the farming for you.

If the title were ever so easy to obtain, it would not be desired and be gazed upon by jealous eyes while cursed upon by the owner of those eyes.

Take my charactor for example. She's guildless and almost goldless managed to get rank 3 survivor so I am sure most of you can as well. I spent most of the gold on signets and managed to get the 15K body a while after reaching rank 3. Just got the 15K leg piece recently (gray). Henched every mission except Vizunah Square. And yes, I have had my share of failures while attempting the title. She's at her 3rd incarnation. The first attempt failed shortly after reaching rank 2 and the second attempt failed about 200K shy of rank 3. Of course, I don't have to remention the causes of death... (see above).

If the current Survivor title isn't changed to be this way, I wonder if ANet would consider making a new title with these conditions. It would be fun trying for this type of title knowing that you could screw up and get another shot at it. Maybe make the requirements a bit higher or something, but still keep the same idea.

I wish I had the time and anger managment to do this The outcome of me dieing in the game after getting really close to Legendary survivor would probably be bad for my computer(especially if the scenario was like the OPs).

As with most 'prestige' titles, you can go about getting it in cool as well as uncool ways. I'm sure there are people who get rushed to Lutgardis and play FFF doorman there all the way to the title, and even though that may be a long grind towards lvl3, it doesn't deserve any respect.

However, don't dismiss the whole thing on potential flaws. There are people who get it legitly and worked hard and fair for it. I have two guildies who got to lvl3 on a Canthan ranger and an Assassin, and they earned it honestly.

Yes, I did it too-- got legendary on my Tyrian mesmer by playing through the whole Tyrian campaign, all quests too, and doing most of Cantha too. It was quite hard and I had to make a restart at 860.000 (my first attempt), but I found it to be really enjoyable and it changed the way I experience the game.
I should add that lag is an unnecessary frustration. The game keeps you hanging in limbo for an incredible amount of time, getting you "killed" while you're in fact frozen. I lagged out once and my guildie observed me standing there from the moment I said I was stuck (on vent) for well over a minute. Luckily nothing happened as we were not in fight, but Anet should consider to speed up the time-out process IMO.

One possible solution to prevent a lag death when you are playing with a partner is to type "/resign" at the beginning of the quest or mission. Then if you are in a lag spike and under attack, if your partner can't save you - he can /resign. Obviously, this won't work when you are solo, but it's something to keep in mind.

I think the idea there is that if you're lagging, the signal to the server indicating that you've decided to log out will be lagged as well.

There is a faster way to log out other than F12 or hitting that little x on the top right.. Alt + F4.

The other two methods have managed to get me killed on a survivor trip, Alt F4 has worked wonders though

they were talking about lag when loading the map, and logging out would fix this problem since that type of lag is your own not serverside

there isn't a dang thing you can do if the lag is from the server

i wrote to support a while back regarding the vizunah square mission.. i completed the mission once and everyone skipped cutscene.. no worries.. did other quests.. lots of skill capturing.. laa dee dah.. then i cant remember why but i decided to do the mission again.. no deaths during mission.. one person did not skip cutscene.. as i sat there and i watched... i see shiro kill us.. horrified i thought it better not have count.. and it sure did.. u have died 1 time.. pfft.. anyway, support wrote back:

"Our developers will not be able to personally respond to you to let you know the status of this issue or any related fix, but please be assured that they are looking into the issue."

"If this issue is confirmed as one that requires change, it will be placed on a list and prioritized along with any other issues that exist in the game. However, please understand that most issues take several weeks or months before a fix is designed, constructed, tested, and eventually passed into the live game environment."

whatever :\

so... anyway, working on another survivor because i'm OCD styles.. lol
but ill alt F4 out of any cutscene from now on.
